Taking Control Of Your Personal Information – Cindy Nguyen

As Co-founder and CEO of Regit – a platform for the secure exchange of personal information so that businesses can keep their customer records up-to-date – Cindy Nguyen believes in making the impossible possible, first by doing things you think you cannot do.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I’m Cindy Nguyen, Co-founder and CEO of Regit. I have over 15 years of experience in Sales, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship and personally experienced the impact of dirty data. With Regit, I want to change all that.

What is your business venture about?

Regit is a compliant real-time communications platform for the secure exchange of personal information, so businesses can keep their customer records up-to-date. We do this by emulating social behaviour and giving customers total control of their information. Regit isn’t a storage or KYC platform. As a communications platform, it’s easier for us to share personal information by replacing forms, emails, calls, SMS and other fragmented and manual modes of information-sharing that gives rise to dirty data.

What is your mission at the outset?

Regit wants to change the world. We want to eliminate repetition, manual processing for the exchange of personal information and most importantly, give back control to the individual.

How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

It took years of painful lessons to arrive at this concept. As a teenager, my family wasn’t well-off. I knew if I didn’t work, my parents would have a really hard time paying for my university fees. To get a job during the summer holidays – I sanded car bumpers. Yes, I trimmed and sanded the front and back bumpers of cars fresh off an assembly line; 80 bumpers per day, to be exact, including the night shift. I worked 12-hour shifts to maximise time and pay.

When you do the same thing day in and out… you’ll just go crazy! I started asking why, and hated my job with a vengeance. Then came my professional career in events management, marketing, and college administration. I spent hours and hours trying to figure out the correct customer records. I focused on collecting as much data as possible, not realising the cost consequences. Data reconciliation drove me to the point of madness. I wanted to solve the problem for myself. My obsession led me to solving it for the world.

What is unique about your business?

Regit will digitise and automate manual data processes, and augment existing personal data solutions. Through a set of APIs, we plan to integrate Regit with other utility providers including KYCs, CRM, HRM, BCM, and other platforms that requires personal information. The ambition is to build a truly connected but also system-agnostic platform that eliminates redundancy, manual processes, and provides better-quality information for businesses to make informed decisions.

Why will customers stay or do repeat business with you?

Businesses are seeing time and cost savings, while enhancing their customer journey. They have access to real business intelligence, which means no more guessing who their customers are. They have a simple process to showcase how they comply to PDPA requirements. They also save a lot of time and repetition for their end-users: No more form-filling or manual processing – share with just one click. They also enable end-users to update their information all on one platform.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Just do it. In order to conquer the impossibilities, you must accept, commit, accept and win over the limitations of your mind. Only then can you unlock the doors of opportunity to turn your dreams into reality.

Do you have any final thoughts?

Be bold and resilient. Think big and leapfrog at every opportunity. Every individual has the power to make a difference; it’s just a matter of flipping your perspective to turn obstacles into opportunities.

Who is your biggest inspiration or drive to do what you are doing?

My husband and parents.

My husband shared this quote by Vincent Peale, which I love: “Change your thoughts and you change your world”. It’s similar to my personal mantra: “Make the impossible possible, by doing the things you think you cannot do.” These quotes are the very things that keep my motor running 24/7.

My parents are my biggest source of inspiration. They risked everything to give us a better life and migrated our family to Canada. They didn’t know a single English word, yet worked day and night to raise five girls and gave their all to us. I grew up learning how to be humble, how to work hard for every single cent, how to earn respect, how to make magic with the cards that I’ve been dealt, how to live with accountability and integrity, and most importantly, how to have passion for life and what I’m doing.

What’s next for you and for Regit?

Regit will continue collaborating and integrating with businesses to build a truly connected and system-agnostic platform that eliminates redundancy, manual processes, and provides better quality information for businesses to make informed decisions. We want to solve the most critical problem for businesses with respect to personal data.

As for myself, I will continue to lead with guts and resilience. And introduce Regit to the world one region at a time, starting with Singapore.
