As the Founder and CEO at Capital Match, a leading invoice financing platform in Southeast Asia, Pawel Kuznicki is inspired by Elon Musk and shares his entrepreneurship journey in helping SMEs and investors.
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I started Capital Match in 2014. Previously I was with Rocket Internet (Zalora and Lazada) and prior to that with McKinsey. Originally from Poland, now I’m living in Singapore.
What is your business venture about?
We are an online platform for alternative credit, offering invoice financing and secured lending opportunities to retail and professional investors.
What is your mission at the outset?
I want to create an inclusive online marketplace for short term business financing offering investors strong risk-adjusted returns and diversification.
How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
Marketplace lending has been growing strongly in the US and UK for more than 10 years. When I started the business in 2014, there was no such platform in Southeast Asia so I saw an opportunity.
What is unique about your business?
We operate in a niche market largely abandoned by banks that yields attractive risk-adjusted returns to investors and has a great scalability potential. We have a great team that is delivering consistently and reacting nimbly to changing market conditions.
Why will customers stay or do repeat business with you?
We have more than 70% of our origination on SMEs’ side coming from repeat clients and more than 80% on investors’ side. To SMEs, we offer financing that they might not able to obtain from a bank and with fast turnaround (funding within a day). To investors, we offer diversification with a low ticket value per trade, high returns, short term investment duration, multiple securities and friendly investment process.
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Focus on generating revenues early to validate your business. Don’t expect that growth will just come because you have a great product and/or team.
Who is your biggest inspiration or drive to do what you are doing?
Elon Musk, by far 🙂 he is a hero.
What’s next for you and for CapitalMatch?
New products and regional expansion.
