Being Founder and CEO of HitPay, a mobile payments startup based in Singapore that provides C2C, B2C and B2B payment solutions, Aditya Haripurkar envisions himself playing the role of facilitating widespread adoption of truly mobile cashless payments in the region.
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
My name is Aditya Haripurkar and I am the Founder and CEO of HitPay Technologies Pte Ltd. I have been based in Singapore for the past 10 years and have a background in banking and finance having worked as a banking professional for 7 years at Barclays Capital and The Royal Bank of Scotland here. I have a postgraduate degree in Finance from INSEAD, Singapore and completed my graduation from Middlesex University, London. .
My passion for technology and entrepreneurship led me to leaving the banking sector and starting a digital agency business which I managed for a year and a half. I subsequently also worked as an account manager in a web analytics consulting company. I started working on HitPay in early 2016 and we released our first product in November 2016.
What is your business venture about?
HitPay is a financial services technology startup based in Singapore that offers a modern platform for P2P and Merchant Payments.
HitPay Mobile available on iOS and Android was launched in Jan 2017 with a vision to provide a modern and contextual payments experience for merchant and person to person cash transfers. We recently introduced the first payment keyboard in South East Asia which facilitates person to person cash transfers through HitPay within any chat application such as Whatsapp and FB Messenger without ever switching apps.
Our user base has been growing at an average rate of 70% month on month since launch while our merchant platform which was launched recently has over 150 online and offline business registrations.
HitPay Payment Keyboard Toolkit are keyboard extension tools developed natively for iOS and Android platforms that allows payment providers like financial institutions and payment wallet companies to provide users the ability to make a payment within any communication app.
What is your mission at the outset?
Our vision is to provide a modern and intuitive mobile platform for our users to manage and spend money. Our endeavour is to achieve this goal by focusing on providing a seamless and contextual alternative banking and payments experience to our target audience.
How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
The idea to build a mobile first platform for spending and tracking of personal finances stemmed from wanting to play a role in fast tracking universal adoption of mobile payments in Singapore which I felt lagged behind in spite of having a modern infrastructure. In addition, the user interface and experience found in banking and payment apps were not up to the standard of apps used by millennials such as Facebook, Snapchat , Instagram and Whatsapp.
The motivation to simplify money spending and tracking using a modern and contextual mobile interface contributed towards us building out HitPay.
What is unique about your business?
We offer what we believe is the first truly contextual personal payments product with HitPay Keyboard which enables a transfer of value within any communication app on your mobile device without switching apps. In addition, we provide merchant QR code payments using multiple payment methods which does not require any wallet top up. Link any card and start scanning and paying at participating HitPay Merchants.
Our merchant solution offers businesses the ability to accept multiple payment methods without the hassles of set up fees, monthly subscription fees or deploying physical hardware at payment acceptance points. HitPay merchants also access a modern web dashboard with customer and payment analytics. Our merchant base consists of local independent product sellers and small businesses that we are positioned to assist and serve quickly and efficiently
Why will customers stay or do repeat business with you?
We approach our customer’s challenges as our own and seek to address these challenges by adopting a customised and nimble approach and at the same time always seek to stay true to our belief of maintaining personal and long term relationships based on mutual respect, trust and honesty.
We hope these fundamental and core company values will allow us to serve our customers in a efficient and sustained manner.
If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?
Treat entrepreneurship as a life experience that allows you to not only develop professionally, but also equips you with skills that prepares you for any challenges that you would ever encounter in your life. So strap yourself and enjoy the rollercoaster ride!
Do you have any final thoughts?
Our core philosophy is to always be honest , sincere and trustworthy in dealing with customers and colleagues . We try our best to place ourselves in a community of likeminded individuals who share a genuine interest in collaborating and sharing. This makes our work meaningful and satisfying which drives us to do what we do everyday!
Who is your biggest inspiration or drive to do what you are doing?
The satisfaction of a client or a customer stating that my product helps them solve a genuine problem is unparalleled and is my constant driving force in building a sustainable business.
What’s next for you and for HitPay?
We are in the process of setting up a merchant acceptance infrastructure and designing additional product features that would make HitPay a one stop money spending and managing platform for our target audience.
